Wanted: The Ultimate Y7&8 Teacher & Team Leader for 2027!

(Permanent Position with 2 Management Units)

Teaching Year 7 and 8s can be... a lot. We’re half kid, half high-schooler, and 100% powered by local drama, snack cravings, and trying to survive Alexandra's winter mornings.

Our current team leader is retiring, which leaves a huge pair of boots to fill! We need a genuine legend to step up, lead our intermediate block, and keep us on the right track before we head off to high school.

Are you an educational "Good Sort" who brings actual warmth, good vibes, and strong leadership? What makes a true "Terrace Good Sort"? 

Around here, being a "Good Sort" is our favourite tradition—it's how we give a big shout-out to awesome people doing awesome things. We want to grow into caring, connected ākonga who do big things for our tūrangawaewae, and we need a leader who makes our classrooms supportive, inclusive, and full of spark and joy!

If you can handle a room full of pre-teens and still bring the energy, we want you!

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

Besides laughing at our jokes, you'll join our wider leadership team, working right alongside leaders to shape the big picture for our school. You'll lead our Intermediate team, making sure learning is top-tier and our teachers aren't too stressed out.

You’re the hero we need if you:

• Put relationships first: You care about us as real people and build strong, positive vibes in the classroom and across the team.

• Give us some say: You design learning around stuff we actually care about and let us have agency over our work.

• Bring special skills: You bring a real heart for Te Ao Māori, the Arts, or Assessment for Learning (or another cool subject area).

• Know your stuff: You’re totally up-to-date with the latest NZ Curriculum changes and know how to teach us for the future.

• Coach the teacher crew: You love sharing awesome teaching tricks and backing your team. Delivering high-impact, culturally sustaining lessons that actually make sense to us.

• Advance Excellence: Checking the data to keep our learning moving up, and keeping the principles of inclusion right at the heart of how our team runs.
